Since the canting spring is applied as an overlay to the continuous arch, the couples of the anterior forces act not only on the teeth to which it is tied, but also, in a variably progressive way, on all teeth in the arch.
A more elastic wire allows more change in archform, since the forces produced by the spring increase the curvature of the wire.
