  1. How does having diabetes change a person’s lifestyle?

  2. Describe how you would feel if you were diagnosed with diabetes?

  3. What are some other diseases that people suffer from?

STEP 1

Explain what diabetes is.

[Response]

When a high blood sugar level is maintained over time, it is called diabetes. Symptoms include frequently going to the bathroom, thirst, and hunger pangs. Without treatment, medical complications could occur. Diabetes is caused by the pancreas making insufficient amounts of insulin. This is called type 1 diabetes. When the body can’t react properly to insulin, it’s referred to as type 2 diabetes.

[Response]

Diabetes is a chronic illness, and curing it completely is impossible. The main thing for diabetes patients is to keep their blood sugar level at a normal level. They can’t let it drop off. A healthy diet, exercise, weight loss, and proper medication make this possible. Maintaining blood sugar levels can keep ill effects to a minimum. To keep diabetes at bay, it’s good to eat lots of dietary fiber. Unsaturated fats in peanuts and fish are also good. It’s also good to cut down on foods with lots of sugar.
