I had stomach problems a while ago, so I went to get a gastroscopy. Starting the day before, I didn’t eat anything. When I got to the clinic, I changed into an exam gown. Then I received an anesthetic. I fell asleep before I knew it. When I woke up, the gastroscopy was over. The doctor said my stomach lining was damaged. He told me to eat regularly, and to avoid eating before I sleep. I got a prescription and left the clinic.

The two main types of endoscopy exams are gastroscopy and colonoscopy exams. They help diagnose and treat cancer, polyps and tumors, as well as inflammations like gastritis or enteritis. Endoscopy procedures for the purpose of diagnosis usually take about 5 minutes. Usually, patients receive a sedative and are examined in their sleep. Abnormal findings from an endoscopy might call for further evaluation and proper treatment. In this case, the doctor might refer the patient to a higher level clinic.

내시경 검사에는 크게 위내시경 검사와 대장 내시경 검사 2가지가 있다. 내시경 검사는 암, 용종, 종양 뿐만 아니라 위염이나 장염 같은 염증성 질환도 진단하고 치료할 수 있게 해 준다. 진단 목적을 위한 내시경 사술 시간은 대개 5분 정도 스요된다, 환자들은 보통 수면제를 투여받고, 수면 상태에서 검사를 받는다. 내시경에서 이상 소견이 있을 때는 정밀 검사 및 적절한 치료가 필요할 수도 있다. 이런 경우에는 의사가 환자를 상급 의료 기관으로 전원을 하게 하기도 한다.
